Sell Yourself With A Great Resume and Succeed in The Jobs Market....

Do you have that sinking desperate feeling of having to do a Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)? It's difficult, yet to progress doing a CV/Resume will have to be faced and mastered. Doing my first CV was difficult, I was numerate rather than literate with no idea of where to start of format or content.

What is the correct format?

What chronological order do you use?

What emphasis do you put on professional qualifications?

How much personal information should you give?

What's it safe to leave out?

How long should it be?

You will face the questions each time you do a job application as your Resume has to change to keep pace with your growing experience.

What do we mostly do when faced with such a task? Buy a book.

Armed with this new friend the CV took the whole of one weekend to complete. On completion the application was typed up by a neighbour and sent off.

Out of 64 applicants I was one of ten to be called for interview. This went well and the final short list of three included me. At this point my application failed. As I was trying to move to a more commercial role there were other candidates better suited.

That first attempt at my CV could be thought of as a success because of what it achieved.

It got me to interview and further and over many years it was refined and used in updated form to apply for progressively more senior posts. Going from shop floor apprentice to CEO proves that it was a reasonable curriculum vitae.

However at age 50 and 'let go' for the second time in my career the challenge of ageism had to be faced. As part of the termination settlement my company were persuaded to pay for an out placement course. This was revealing.

The main thrust of the service was guidance and help in producing a powerful CV with cover letter and mail out services using a variety of marketing techniques to target businesses. This did produce an even more powerful job application package and I learned many new techniques for creating an even more powerful CV that was used successfully for number of years. Even when I quit the corporate world to become a consultant.

Many people do not consider producing a CV until forced to by circumstances outside their control. This means a first attempt may have to compiled under time pressure, which is not the ideal.

Visit any forum relating to employment and jobs and you will find there are a lot of people who need help with their CV's and cover letters.

In recognition of these difficulties I decide to committ some of what I learned to paper. With many successful aplications for senior jobs behind me and having reviewed 1,000's of job applications I believe I now know what works.

This is how and why How to do a Resume came to be written.

Written for direct download. The manual is easy to follow and takes you progressivley through to final production of your top notch application.

With guidance on planning, self appraisal, formats and writing the CV plus many other features this easy to read manual will be a great help to those struggling like I did to create their first resume or anyone updating and strengthening an existing one.

Because my career progressed to senior level I have received many job applications so I have seen it from 'both sides'. I know what works and what turns the reader off.

Your CV is your personal sales package and there are some specific techniques that you can discover here.

A final thought;

With the advent of the computer and associated equipment more and more people are deserting the corporate world to join those of us who have successfully started our own businesses, and who continue to reap the benefits as we work from home.

If you decide to do this you will realise just like I did how important it is to learn how to sell yourself successfully. Which ever direction you choose, the best of good fortune as you make your progress with your top quality CV and powerful job applications.
