It makes you think....

Think before you ask.

Do you ever observe how many times you are asked a question and the person who asks already knows the answer.

I find it happens often and conclude if people would develop the ability to rely on their own judgement they would develop confidence and abilities to their own greater benefit.

This may seem self evident and you would expect that more and more people would try to be self reliant.

There are even courses for teaching us how to 'think outside the box'.

A great example of this came through in a recent article about those facing career change as a result of corporate change. It cited the example of a lady who was made redundant after 15 years of working for a charity.

Not to be defeated she decided to settle down with Yellow Pages and flick through to see what ideas she would come up with.

When she got to Funeral Directors she realised that she had never seen or heard of a female Funeral Director. She sent off some letters of introduction and was asked by one of the companies to go in for a discussion.

After convincing them that because she had previously worked as a nurse she would be able to cope emotionally they took her on.

She is now one of the few Funeral Directors in the country and gets great satisfaction from her new vocation. She does not necessarily enjoy the work but finds that the relatives respond to dealing with a female Funeral Director and she considers it a privilege to serve people at their time of acute distress.

This is a great example of how to think and then thinking 'outside the box' for a number of reasons.

The lady applied her mind to finding a source of new jobs. She considered how she could use previous experience and she had the courage and initiative to take action.

As always 'action is the key'. Anyone will succeed if they are prepared to take action after considering their options.
