How Leading with Distinction and Integrity Will Drive Success.

Running a successful business of any size is becoming more difficult and complicated. To be successful you now have to embrace matters of social, ethical and environmental importance.

These issues are becoming drivers in modern business and as a business leader you will have to understand such issues and build them into how your business operates.

Here are a few pointers.

1. Work out and know your values and keep to them.

2. Be consistent - you have to do what you say and give a clear lead by setting an example.

3. Take the long view and work to the drivers. They will become part of the culture.

4. See the bigger picture and make sure you fit within it.

5. Involve and work with internal and external stakeholders.

6. Stay positive at all times. See challenges as opportunities.

7. Lead by example.

In starting, managing or advising more than 40 diverse businesses plus numerous individuals I can vouch for these principles.

When I started to offer my services as a consultant the greatest buzz was when referrals for my services started to be made. This meant the value of my support and advice was my being recognised and discussed by clients and prospects.

The life as an independent consultant is financially rewarding, stimulating and intellectually satisfying. Offering your particular skills and experience is a great way to start an independent business If you can set the highest standards for yourself and work to them at all times your integrity will be recognised and respected. This will rub off and your business and reputation will grow.
