KISS - 'byobe' Bulletin 136. October 07, 2007 |
Hello & WelcomeKeep It Simple StupidThe KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) PRINCIPLE.Some of the most successful businesses are the simplest ones. By meaning simple we are talking of the business model. Amazon is a simple business. We all know what Amazon does and how it does it. This principle of keeping it simple is important. Too many people over complicate issues for variety of reasons. Management speak and jargon is a prime example. The language should be what we all understand. Correct English, clearly spoken or written. If technical terms are involved make sure they are clearly explained and don't do what a lot of tech'ies do - assume that those they are talking to will understand. A good way to test this is to try to put your self in your customers place and understand what his problem is. Then just solve the problem. Resist the temptation to want to explain all about technology etc., they just want their problem solved. Keeping it simple will help your customers, but also to the point it will help you and any employees you may have in your business. Simple is easy, complicated is difficult. In your business you are creating value, value for your customers and value for yourself as the business owner. Keep it simple! The important thing to keep in mind particularly if your product or service is complicated is that the business model can and should be kept simple. A good example is to not to try to be all things to all men. If you are offering a service narrow down your target customer base and target that niche. It's that simple 'Keep It Simple Studip'. Tip of the week. You are what you think about all day long. That's all for now. I hope you will enjoy your next issue of 'byobe' Bulletin - helping you to succeed. Best wishes, Michael Harrison.
