The Coming Knowledge Gap is an Opportunity!... - 'byobe' Bulletin 126. July 22, 2007 |
| Hello & Welcome If you are in consulting you should not see the coming knowledge gap as a threat! Is the coming knowledge gap a real threat? With a number of major infrastructure projects coming along, the 2012 Olympics to mention one, the UK could be facing a knowledge gap. A recent survey indicated that 70% of business leaders questioned expect a knowledge gap to emerge in about five years. That said 65% admitted they had not put any plans in place to counter this threat which it's estimated could cost the UK economy as much as £2.6 Billion a year. The other side of this particular coin is that it could present a great opportunity for anyone already in consulting or thinking of starting. Think of a business consultant as someone who assists organisations to solve problems and adopt successful business practice by providing professional knowledge and skills appropriate to a particular situation. There are great opportunities in consulting; Computer, business services, computer training, engineering in different disciplines, waste, and real estate to name a few. So with the coming knowledge gap anyone who has the experience and skills should be anticipating a rosy future. The main reasons given for using business consultants are 'lack of internal resources' - 35% and 'lack of internal skills' - 29%. Many business consultants start by going freelance and working for previous employers as they widen their customer base, gain experience and become established. Once confidence grows from the completion of a few early projects consultancy is a very acceptable way of life. No boss for just a start. More control. More freedom. More money and great job satisfaction. Don't miss this opportunity from the coming knowledge gap. I know I bang on about it but so many people will grow as personalities and business people when they establish them selves a business consultants. As you develop you are able to spot and take up numerous business opportunities that you would never have come across if you were not a business consultant. Start Consulting Tip of the week. Don't ever under estimate what you know and make sure you use it! That's all for now. I hope you will enjoy your next issue of 'byobe' Bulletin - helping you to succeed.
