Motivation .... - 'byobe' Bulletin 100.
January 14, 2007
Hello & Welcome

Taking action becomes a habit as you increase your motivation.

Have you ever been in the situation of having to make repeated telephone calls to get something done? If you have had to make cold calls - sales calls, calls to make appointments, whatever, you will be familiar with the tight stomach and the feeling that you do not want to make the next call because it's hard to break the ice and you get rejected repeatedly. Sound familiar?

You have to create the motivation to keep doing it. In business particularly on your own account you will have to face this at sometime. I would like to share with you a little motivational technique that will help you to keep going until you reach your objective.

Note; you have to have an objective.

I recently read of a great example to illustrate the point. A chap had a great business concept for a new business but needed financial backers to get the business started fast. He knew he had to get outside help and was confident his concept was sound.

His first task was to identify potential sources of funding. This done he set himself the objective of talking to five people a day knowing that would equate to around 150 in a month. In two days he came to realise that he was coming up against the barrier. Not wanting to pick up the phone. He had to really motivate himself to do it. By the third day he was feeling better and by the end of that week the discomfort was minor. Before he had made the 50th call he had secured what he needed.

When you are motivated to take action every day it becomes a habit. The motivation stays with you. The biggest mistake many of us make is to put off taking action by waiting until we are sure everything is right and in place. I now know myself well enough to know I do this and have to guard against it.

I am a motivated person who sets measurable achievable objectives and have steadily worked at making sure I do take action to get things done. When you take action every day to achieve your objective(s) it does become a habit. This means it gets easier because like every thing else we do repeatedly we get better at it. Get in the habit of setting objectives and taking action to increase your motivation.

Tip of the week.

A day will never be anymore than what you make it. Practice being a 'doer'.

That's all for now. I hope you will enjoy your next issue of 'byobe' Bulletin - helping you to succeed.

Best wishes,

Michael Harrison.
