Networking - A Guide - 'byobe' Bulletin 153. May 25, 2008 |
Hello & WelcomeNetworking Can Lead to SuccessYears ago as a young executive the prospect of networking with strangers was not attractive to me. With more maturity and hopefully a little more sense I now really enjoy meeting people with experiences that I can learn from and hopefully also make a contribution. In trying to give guidance to good networking it's not easy to be succinct but here goes. 1. Be generous in helping others. As you give, so shall you receive. This is so true and you also get to feel good. 2. Make your personal network diverse and not just a group of likeminded friends and business contacts. 3. Networks that contain people from other sectors, regions or industries who have done what you seek to do can be of great help to you. 4. Network strategically, not indiscriminately by knowing what kind of introductions and information you need. 5. Don't hustle for contracts or new clients. It's not in the spirit of good networking and also does not really work. I think if you bear these suggestions in mind you will get a lot from your networking and it should be enjoyably effective. Shortly after completing this article I will be going to a function where there will be a lot of friends, part of my social network. I know I shall enjoy it and I also know I will be bound to learn something new. Tomorrow morning I will be with another part of my social network when around twenty of us will gather for our weekly game of golf. Guess what? I shall enjoy the networking after the golf just as much as the game itself. There is more on networking successfully here. Tip of the week. Life's like a boomerang. The more good you throw out, the more you receive in return - Josh S Hinds That's all for now. I hope you will enjoy your next issue of 'byobe' Bulletin - helping you to succeed.
