Be SMART when setting goals - 'byobe' Bulletin 144. December 23, 2007 |
Hello & WelcomeMissing Goals? Try SMART Goal SettingAs we come to the end of the year we will soon be looking ahead and thinking of goals for the coming year. When setting your goals there is a simple way of creating them so that you have some chance of achieving them. You need to be SMART! Your goals should be; Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time constrained Read the first letters vertically from top to bottom. This applies to each goal you set yourself and others. For a coming period if you can be SMART you will get the satisfaction of really achieving something worthwhile. Another thing I like to do at this time of year is reflect. Reflect on the past year and draw some conclusions. Did I achieve my objectives? Did I learn anything? Where am I now in relation to where I was this time last year and to the point am I where I want to be? This type of reflection helps me at least know how I feel about life. We have good times we have not so good times but life goes on and has to go on. This year has been difficult. We have had three family bereavements. One was anticipated on age grounds and two were sudden and totally unexpected. It's during periods like this that knowing your values and having certainties in your relationships and priorities you are able to see life in perspective. I recommend you be SMART in setting goals ahead but also don't become too achievements oriented such that you lose sight of what really matters. Do a little reflecting as well. More on setting goals, Tip of the week. Just be SMART! Have a Great Christmas and prosperous New Year. That's all for now. I hope you will enjoy your next issue of 'byobe' Bulletin - helping you to succeed. Best wishes, Michael Harrison.
