Communcation Barriers - 'byobe' Bulletin 141. November 11, 2007 |
Hello & WelcomeIgnore all Types of Communication BarriersJust back from a short vacation it has struck me how we now have few types of communication barriers. We stayed at a nice family run hotel in Sorrento, Italy.Because the hotel was owned and run by the family I did a bit of business fact finding in conversation with the grand daughter of the original founders of the business. Not wanting to bore you with the details suffice it say the business has been family owned and managed for 40 years. We had nice comfortable holiday and our room looked out over the Bay of Naples, on my return to the UK I thought it would be nice to send a message of thanks to the staff and family members. This was done and a very nice message came back almost by return. It was at this point the realisation dawned that there really are few types of communication barriers in this digital age. Never would it have crossed my mind to sit down and write a letter of thanks, a simple quick email did the job. With so few types of barriers to communication it's worth remembering good business practice in relation to prospects, clients, suppliers and employees, not to mention members of ones family. In a business sense keep an eye out fro any item of interest that you can communicate to one of your contacts and make that communication. Send them information it lets them know you are thinking of them. Remember birthdays, anniversaries and get in touch. We are fortunate that with communications so much quicker and easier that it's easy, effective and nice to communicate. There are now very few types of communication barriers, there is no excuse for not keeping in touch. It was pleasing to get back in touch with family at the hotel and I am grateful that it reminded me there are now few types of communication barriers, even my lack of Italian did not stop us communicating and communication can be life changing Tip of the week. Continuous, supportive communication from managers, supervisors, and associates is too often underemphasized. It is a major, major motivator. That's all for now.
