eBay.uk or eBay.com?
Maybe I did the right thing - TWICE!
eBay.uk or eBay.com?
When I registered with eBay even though I live in the UK I intentionally avoided eBay.uk and registered with eBay.com. I reasoned that the dollar is a universal curency and the eBay market is a worldwide market. In the six weeks I have been trading I have sold to France, Sweden, USA a number of times, Canada and Australia all in Dollars.
Easy for everyone and PayPal does the conversion to pounds sterling automatically so no need for eBay.uk, maybe I did that right..
The other thing about eBay is the self regulating feedback mechanisms appear to make it work and good customer service is a way of life. You do not hang about with your precious customers. No need to teach 'customer experience'.
This week I had cause to reflect on why I am glad to be free from some aspects of the corporate world. When my monthly magazine came from the Institute of Management I did my usual flick through for news. There was a supplement covering some service excellence awards that made me grind my teeth.
The top award went to a 'learning' organisation. Learning because they reasoned if they used the word teaching it would give the impression of 'preaching from on high'.
In my book you learn from a teacher, personal experience or from someone in a position of being able to impart knowledge that you don't possess. That is how we all learn
It gets worse. There was an action photograph of the young team that had won the award. Their titles; 'customer experience agent', 'account manager' and 'reception ambassador'. I can live with account manager and it tells what the persons responsibilities are. The other two - what twaddle. Have we gone politically correct mad?
That is the other thing I did right, I escaped all that nonsense when I left corporate life.
Let's keep it simple, talk straight, cut out the political correctness and give great service.
Signed,
Your Customer Experience Agent.
